How do I complete the weekly task of exchanging 18 menders talismans for the temple of Light weekly task. I tried the exchange for lost Grove coins but it didn't complete the task. Can't see any where else to exchange the menders talismans...how can I complete the task?

For this task, you need to use that amount of talismans in the Temple of Light itself. When you click "Mend Party Pets", you are met with this screen:
Click the talisman icon and use that for healing!
