I've just unlocked Umbra Forest and I'm exploring Faerina's shrine, but I completely get wiped out every once in a while, even though my pets are at a higher level.
The healing is way too expensive- I went straight from around 7000 down to 3000 after, like, 10 battles.
Is there some way that I don't know about to earn gold? I'm going to run out soon, and I can't explore like this.

step one don't pay faeries for heals. Pets will recover over time so long as they aren't in a fight (or the lost grove, but that's not a place you'll be for a while since it's the lv60+ area at the end of the available plot)

2 missions. You have... 2? mission slots available by default, but can buy more up to a total of 6 (buyable from the town plazas.) Having specifically set up mission pets so you can just have a constant flow of missions going is top tier earnings.
Not just the base payout of gold, exp, ap, and town reputation, but the mission satchels, which can additionally provide more gold, equips (that you can either use or sell), and healing items* (and very rarely generator essences)
See the guide to mission pets and missions here
You can also see a thread on mission payouts here
(* the healing items include draughts, which means that if you really want to get straight back into your grind if your pets get KOd you can do it without needing to pay a the money grubbing fairies)

3 If you're in Faerina's Shrine, you'll also want to pick up your third pet slot from the sanctuary of saerielle plaza asap, since everything Umbra Forest on is designed with three-pet teams in mind

as it is, you have on your party at this time two Attacker elements, air and fire. These two elements don't have any elemental abilities that help up their defenses or heal them, they're both out-and-out dedicated to damage (save for one air ability that is very endgame that can provide a little healing.
A Light pet would help a lot- Light are the major Healer element, able to heal all party pets (water can run as Buffer, but not before lv30, and it doesn't truly grow into it until at least lv70.)
A Tank element (earth, water, shadow) to have in slot 1 of the team would also help survivability

You may want to check posts 2 and 3 of this guide which go over the elements and what their usual proficiency and gear allocations are

4. rounds of the festival zone. Just going around the zone collecting chests every hour or so can be very lucrative even if you try to avoid fights. A single chest can give a few thousand gold.
Additionally, if you don't want to use any of the festival items you get from them, you can sell those on the broker for respectable gold

5. region 1 farming- what it sounds like, you just pick an area in viridian meadows and Explore repeatedly, opening every chest and doing whatever with fights. each chest doesn't give much, but if you have the time to go for a while you could make a bit. (also, fallfest is like, the only time of the year when fairy mushrooms will fetch an actual price on the broker, since the Spooky Shop sometimes offers a trade for those, meaning people actually want them for once)

also see the guide to making gold

If you want, I could potentially send some gear for your team (lv25 epic/legendary gear, I have a lot of mission satchels lying unopened for situations like this), just tell me if you'll be swapping your party elements

Thanks that helps :)
there's only a few problems- the third party slot is way too expensive
I actually have a healer prepared and I'm trying to get it to a sustainable level, but I can't get it in my party- too expensive
I've got some at least fine equipment for now, so money and levels are generally my biggest problem

If I remember right, the cost of the pet slot is... 25k?
If you had some mission pets set up (proficiency + gear chosen to emphasise a single specific stat) and sent them on esior's lv10/medium missions as often as you could and got Exceptional each time (meaning double base payout + 2 mission satchels) it'd take about... 17? missions to cover that (880 base pay, average value of lv10/med. satchels 270g)
(easy way, use a pet that's a much higher level than the mission level, since they have higher stats+greater proficiency boost)

Boring mission maths aside, you can also do tasks for the fest task board.
Just doing the ToT-related tasks will net 200 chocolate coins a day, and those go on the broker for generally 300-400 gold apiece, meaning that you could easily get 50k or more pretty easily by selling them to other players.
This option is a very easy one!

(doing rounds of the fest zone, also lucrative- if you got a single mystery brew catalyst box drop that'd fetch 19k+ on the broker easy)

Along with everything already said, I'd like to add that as you progress, getting gold becomes easier (it's not endlessly frustrating forever, I promise). However, for right now, I'd give these tips:

1. Do the dungeon you've unlocked every so often. You'll get gold from that, and from selling the excess equipment you don't need (I still do this sometimes)

2. Set your pets up for breeding. If you go to advanced search, you can mess with the filters and see how much it generally costs to breed that species with those traits (edit: you can easily go a thousand over and people will still breed with your pet, just less often)

3. Check out the various forums. There will often be giveaways, games, people looking for specific items, etc., which are all ways to get a decent amount of gold. Many of these are also designed for people who are newer to the game

Thanks, I'm going well right now.
I've swapped my Fire element for a Shadow, sold some stuff on the trade boker, and sold a pet so I'm surviving right now.

sent over some gear that we had lying in our inventory that you can make far more use of than we can (only thing it'd be doing over here is gathering dust or getting hoard-sold)

Good luck on your endeavors!
