Not really a newbie, but it's been a long time since I played and I only started up again recently so I don't remember: where do you get essences from?

It has a low drop rate from several places. I'm not sure about all of them, but nurturing and battling can give you essence of the species you were battling or nurturing. The most reliable way is buying essence, either from other players on the trade broker, or on the diamond shop if you have diamonds you're willing to spend on it.

You just highlight the image url and click the IMG button, or click the button and paste the link between the tags
image links use the IMG= button, with image url between the tags and destination link after the = inside the first tag
