It unfortunately is that time again - the dreaded server migration!

We are currently working with our Host on plans for a new server for Sylestia. With the ever rapid advancements in hardware tech, this is just necessary every few years.

Our new plan will save us a lot of money annually and will come with a small downgrade. The reasoning for this is that we have a server that's pretty overpowered for our needs at this point in time. While I can't say for certain if there will be any noticeable impacts to performance just yet, I do not think that we will notice much of any difference - if any at all. And it's entirely possible that we actually see an improvement as we move into newer software and newer hardware.

At this moment, I don't know when exactly this is going to take place. There's a lot of complications on our Host's end regarding our account that they are trying to get sorted out. I also had to request a custom configuration for our new server, which took some time to get approval from their senior team. Right now, we are waiting for them to get an issue fixed with our account so that we can begin this whole process.

This time around, I plan on them duplicating our current server to the new server first. I will then play around on the new server and make sure things are working properly, configure settings, etc. Once I verify that the new server is configured and working properly, we will then take Sylestia offline for the ~6-12 hours or whatever it takes for them to migrate only our database data to the new server. Then we will switch over the connections to the new server and that should be that. Hopefully, this approach should result in a lot less downtime and a lot less issues for you guys (and me!).

As soon as I know when we can get this migration done, I will let everyone know. If the migration ends up interrupting the final Round of Leaderboard Contests, we will have to adjust their timing accordingly. I apologize in advance if this happens.

Unfortunately, this process is finicky. Our contract for our current server has expired at this point - we are running on borrowed time. So we don't really have the luxury to tell our Host to delay the process to whenever we want. They obviously want to get us set up on the new server and get the new contract started as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone in advance for your patience and understanding. Keep an eye out for when we post more information.

Our Host is scheduled to begin the new server set up on Tuesday. I will then probably start checking and working on adjusting the new server Tuesday night into Wednesday, hopefully finishing by Wednesday. This would then mean we will do our full migration on Thursday - hopefully ending by Thursday evening.

That is the tentative schedule at this point in time. I won't be able to say for certain though until Wednesday at the earliest. There's a million factors atm that could delay this timeline.

Nothing, at this point.

When we begin the actual migration, the site will go offline and time will freeze until it's complete and we're on the new server.
