I used a lesser genetic mutator on a pet, but I got no new traits.
I tamed this one myself, so I'm positive he's always had the Lionfish trait. I only used a pet dye to adjust the color of the stripes a little.

As you can see there are no new visible or carried traits. The genetic mutator was consumed. You can see the indicator icon that a mutator was used.
So...what just happened? And is it possible to have my pet re-set so I can try again? |

Hi! Since your pet isn't genetically tested, you can't see its carried traits. Carried and hidden traits can only be seen once a pet is tested. The exception to this is Generated pets, they can't be tested, but since you chose the traits yourself, you can see their carried traits anyways.
If you'd like, I'd be happy to test your pet for you so you can see the added carried trait.
To have me test your pet, you'd set the pet to my user ID(76469) for 1 gold. I'd then buy the pet, test it, then sell it back to you for 1 gold with the pet set to your user ID. |

Whoops, and here I thought I ruined a perfectly good pet, haha!
For some reason I thought hidden/carried traits would show up regardless if I used a testing kit (I've been taking in so much new information as I learn the game lol). I have a few test kits of my own , but thank you for offering :) |

Ah, it's totally okay, getting used to the game takes some time!
A hidden trait is a recessive trait hidden under a more dominant visible trait(These traits appear as purple when a pet is tested).
A carried trait is a non-visible trait(And shows up as green when tested).
And that's totally fine! I have the exceptional(unlimited) testing kit, so if you run out of kits and need a pet tested, feel free to let me know, I'd be glad to help out. ^^ |

Ok, I will have to read more about hidden traits. I assumed they were the same as non-visible traits. So that's why some are blue and some are purple... Thanks again :) |

Hiddens are technically a kind of Carry, just under another, more dominant, Visible trait, rather than being in a no-vis slot. Which term is used is for the matter of differentiation.
