iI'm having a lot of difficulty leveling up my pets, any tips on how to do it faster ?

how much exp a pet gets is based on their lv vs the enemy level, so you generally want to level grind in your most recently unlocked plot-area or the one just prior (when there isn't a festival zone active)
pets can also gain exp when completing missions from the barracks, and from having exp orbs used on them

2. what pets are on your party?
3. what order are those pets in (namely, who is in slot 1)?

as an earth pet, Verduska should be in slot 1 as the Tank

Gear:
Verduska, earth tank, should have Assassin equipment
Assassin gear is Strength/Agility focused
Agility is important on a tank, since it controls Defence and Evasion

Flor as a fire attacker should have Evoker gear
Fire element focuses into Intelligence and Dexterity
Dexterity controls Accuracy and Critical Hit chance

Chant being a light healer, could go with either Evoker or Illusionist
Illusionist is Intelligence/Agility. It depends on which you feel you need more, dex or agi, which sort you use. Most people run light healers int/dex, though.

(pet speed is controlled by both Dex and Agi equally- a 300dex/100agi pet has the same speed as one that's 200dex/200agi or 100dex/300agi)


I'm tossing some gear over though it's a bit scattershot since there's two pets under lv25 which I don't really have any supply for, so we included some stuff they can use now and stuff they'll be able to once they hit 25

Better gear will help your team last better against stronger enemies meaning it'll be easier to get exp from them.
(especially Relics of the right sort- relics give an extra bonus to one of the damage stats based on the sort of equip they are (or both, in the case of Disciples, which are kind of a 'placeholder' type) At the moment, you have an Earth (physical element) with a Magic/int type relic, and a fire and light (magical elements) with phys/str type relics, so they have less damage output than they could have.)

Phys/str elements are Water, Earth, and Air
Magic/int elements are Shadow, Light, and Fire
They only use the specific damage stat associated with their element, and don't use the other at all

and I noticed today that we can buy pets or eggs I was fascinated, there went my savings for 3 slot

definitely focus on your third slot first. umbra forest on is calibrated with the expectation of you having three pets in your party
