Mari's Breeding Projects

Just some general planning so I know what I'm doing moving forward. :3 I'm really new, so any advice is appreciated!

Also, if there are any projects whose offspring you'd be interested in, feel free to let me know. I'm still mostly planning but am willing to push projects up if people are interested. I'm also willing to promise offspring for donations of necessary essences.

Planned Projects:
1. Seafade Zolnixi
2. Nightmane Qitari

Just for Fun:
1. QB Luffox
2. QB Puffadore

Seafade Zolnixi:

A seafoam/mint color scheme swirled with lots of white. I love how delicate the base colors turn out when you mix them up with the #FFFFFF genes, almost like a gradient effect. I'm deciding between two variations, slightly leaning toward the cross fox type.

Banded Stripes:

Cross Fox:

This is my first breeding project, and my resources are limited, so I'm still deciding how I'm going to do it. Advice is welcome! I know as far as getting to 2-vis is not that hard, but I'm trying to figure out what the best starting parents would be for the 4-vis. 4carry x 4carry, upon further research and reflection, yields a VERY low chance of a 4vis. P:

Nightmane Qitari

I'm going to nerd out a moment... this is my MLP OC. :P I may just aim for a 2-vis with her since I'd be able to do it without any breeding, but she wears a hairbow, so 3-vis with carousel is a nice touch.

QB Luffox

CONTRACT?

QB Puffadore
CONTRACT???

Oooh!

Well, depending on how you want to start your project, you have some ways to cheat progress.

You can find pets with the traits visible that you already want and dye them. Try looking for pets that ONLY have advanced runes, tritails, and spirit flames (nothing else, especially where cross fox Gene would be if you wanna breed it ).
It looks like a 5vis from here though xD

Once you get those pets, breed it with a cross fox visible pet. You get babies that carry all the traits. Try to breed so that they all don't have the same mom or dad to breed with each other.

Breeding 4carry pets together is a bit tough, but you want to get all four genes across plus some visibles.

I'm in school, but I can explain it better when I get home. xD

Ah, whoops, I was going to say that the spirit flames are optional, so I was going to concentrate on getting the 4-vis of cross fox/marbled fox/advanced runes/tri-tails. xD But maybe I might as well do the spirit flames if I'm putting all the work into it to begin with. :P That's a good idea, using dyes. So the goal is to get some of the traits I want visible in the parents and the others carried?

Yep; you wanna have all your traits present first instead of having one or two. c:

I would suggest searching in the advanced search with your filters like this:

In this way, you can find combos of pets with all those traits either carried or visible. (You might get pets with more than just those, like say pets with dominant traits on top of cross fox, or pets with traits on mutation 2 or 3. Just try to get the traits you want.)

You want to find pets that are similar to what you would've generated using essences. (Like at first, to start a 4vis project, you would've generated a pet with cross fox/marbled fox/advanced runes/tri-tails carried right? Well you can buy a pet like that at a fraction of the cost of an essence!)

For public sale, some pets may not be fitting for you. However, you should look for pets that fit your project, and try PMing the owner if they can sell it to you for your project. Personally, I think nixis should be cheaper since you're looking for more dominant traits. They may get more expensive as they have more visibles, but you can do for carried probably.

Perfect example of a pet for you:
http://www.sylestia.com/view/pets/?petid=542904
Has 4 of the traits you want carried and 1 of the traits you want visible. (Don't worry about talisman, it'll disappear by the time you hit 4-5vis c: )

This should help you get going for a newbie to breeding. c: /was gonna give more tips and tricks but it'd be hard to take in if you're not too used to breeding xD;;

If you need any help, just lemme know!

I see, I see! The tricky thing will be the cross fox since it is so recessive. If I want to do it with the banded stripes variant, I have waaay more options. xD Maybe the cross fox is a project I'll save. That, or I could try working with one parent that has just the visible cross fox and nothing else (at least nothing that would interfere with the slots I need).

Thanks, this is all really helpful! You can try the advanced tips, but yeah... I'm not used to it at all. xD I'm thinking I might come up with a simpler project to do first, maybe up to a 3-vis. But with your advice, this one definitely seems like it's within reach.

edit: I picked up this gal with visible marbled fox, advanced runes, tri tails, and spirit flames (and talismans... those things are everywhere!). She's an adolescent right now, but I have plenty of time. The choices are still extremely limited for a mate, though. I'm looking for cross fox + at least one of the other traits at least carried. There aren't many!

edit 2:

Here is my plan. It's not the best, but it'll work at least until I save up enough gold to make realistic offers on pets with more desired traits in combination with Cross Fox. There just aren't that many to even offer on. :B

Mother 1:
Cross: N
Marbled Fox: AA
Advanced Runes: AA
Tri-tails: AA
Spirit Flames: BB
Talismans: AA

Father 1:
Cross: NH
Marbled: N
Advanced Runes: N
Tri-tails: AA
Spirit Flames: NB
Talismans: N

Goal:

Cross: NH
Marbled: NA
Advanced Runes: NA
Tri-tails: AA
Spirit Flames: BB
Talismans: any

--

Father 2:
Cross: N
Marbled: NA
Advanced Runes: AA
Tri-tails: NA
Spirit Flames: BB
Talismans: AA

Mother 2:
Cross: HH
Marbled: N
Advanced Runes: N
Tri-tails: N
Spirit Flames: NB
Talismans: N

Goal:
Cross: NH
Marbled: NA
Advanced: NA
Tri-tails: NA
Spirit Flames: BB
Talismans: any

Only a slight improvement over 4-carry x 4-carry, and the trait I consider optional is the most likely, but oh well. :v

Seafade Zolnixis are well underway! I'm waiting for my female 4-vis Zolnixis (technically 5-vis, they have talismans too xD) to reach adulthood, though, so that's slowing me down a bit. Right now I can only breed my 2-vis, 2-carry boy (plus talismans again :P) with the few Cross Fox gals I've found with a breeding fee that actually have one other trait I need.

So far, I've got a 3-carry, 1-vis male (w/ talismans, so technically 4-carry), another 3-carry, 1-vis male (w/ talismans, technically 4-carry), and a 2-carry, 1-vis female (again, w/ talismans, technically 3-carry). Not bad luck, but not quite good enough. xD What I need out of this breeding is a 4-carry, 1-vis, the best I can possibly get with my current options.

These failures are potentially available, but their colors are not seafade (I'm dyeing when I have proper parents).

Also added some new projects, and I'm working on some more. I'm not sure what I'll start first.
