Greetings, all! I'm relatively new here, but pretty ambitious with the plans for my massive Vulnyx herd, but I have a few questions about such things. (Mostly related to marketing/selling.)

By my calculations, it'll be six to eight months before my plans will start coming to finality, but should I start any sort of thread beforehand? Is it better to gather interest ahead of time, or just show up with the results?

There's a lot I want to do, but I'm having trouble keeping up with the cost of supporting it all. (Increasing cost of stablespace, mostly, heh.) What would be a good way to 'pay the bills' until the projects start having worth-selling results?

What would be a reasonable priceline for 6-vis project offspring? What about festival purebreeds, is there a market for those? Or does the marketabilty of anything vary enough to make it pointless to think that far ahead?

Thank you in advance, to anyone willing to help me out! :-)

Hi there, I have a few answers for your questions I hope they help.

1. If you plan to sell the final product of you projects then I would say that it would be a good idea to type up a thread to get interest. Not only will you be able to keep a good track of the project but you will gauge the popularity of your project and can work on a good price for your pets.

2. The best way to save money on here is to have a constant stream of missions (and mission pets selected especially for the certain missions so that there is less of a chance of failure). Although exploring rakes in a bit you will find that the missions are a constant income on the site, even better than selling pets actually. Another thing would be to make sure that you release any pets that you do not really want any longer, the more pets the more mouths to feed the less money you keep.

3. Prices depend on pets. What I would say to you first is that you really want to stick with the price you set (which is why you want to set up a thread so that you can figure out popularity of the projects). Our market for pets is terrible, to the point where you can buy a fabled pet such as a Ny'Vene, which you cannot find in the wild, with multiple vis from as little as 200g. My advice is to ignore the market, set your prices and stick with them. Here are my general prices for my projects, and if you look in my first post I link to other projects, but you can, and should, also check out the threads to work out what is the general price for project pets.

Festival pets are a bit harder to explain. Yes they are sold at a higher price but I have only really seen the Fall Festival Fabled pets (the Spooky and Blood Scream Ryori's) ever get so much attention, the others get a bit but then the hype wears off.

This being said the wheel pets are again different. Wheel pets and offspring's are very profitable, I myself am making a little army of Delicious Delights Ny'Vene from the Valentines festival we had this year. and if you look in the sales thread you will see that offspring are often auctioned off for a fair amount.

I hope this helps, I know that your cost question was not really answered, but that is because to be totally honest with you our market for selling pets is absolutely terrible at the moment. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

While there's a market for purebred themed pets from festivals, I kinda would consider a few things:

1. Species (is it fabled or regular, most likely regular, though fabled definitely has a bigger gold difference compared to regular species, along with what species are more popular than others (i.e. zolnixi vs draeyls, regardless of personal preferences, what are the chances someone's going to buy a nixi over a draeyl?))
2. Theme Color/Design (sometimes a certain market will prefer certain colors over others, or themes where the pets look really nice, OOOOR the rarity of a one-day theme versus 2week-available themes)
3. Traits (most likely, people will look for certain traits that will make the pet worth their while; if they aren't purebreeders on their own, they might not be interested in carries for example, and want to see visibles, so you have to have a good grip on the purebred projects for great looking babies that have more to boast than being purebred, but also good looking and lofty on visibles/carries)

I don't really dabble in marketability of purebreeds. Mainly, wheel pets' offspring OR themed fabled pets' offspring (ie spooky/blood scream ryori, arctic storm griffi) are a big rage for everyone, whereas regular themed pets are mainly for collectors or people who think they're pretty (unless they're like epic or legendary or mythical, that's a different story).

IF you decide to do purebreed markets of fabled pets or wheel pets, you might be against other competitors that also want to sell and make the most of that market within a certain limited amount of time (during the fall, spooky ryoris were all the rage until December or so, then they started overbreeding and interest kinda died down and thus the market is low unless you're a purebreeder taking them to 6vis). So I guess you should keep that in mind.
On the regular themed pets, it isn't as popular, so it isn't as strenuous if you really wanted to do that.

Willow is right: missions are great for having stable and rising income. I do the 6hr and 12hr missions and get satchels that may give 5k a pop, and the successful missions give 7k a pop. Plus I'm a terrible timekeeper so the long waits work in my favor.

For your stables, I recommend having separate stables for your breeding. Personally I wouldn't mix them with my personal pets because it starts to get messy when your projects have nowhere to go aha.
At the same time, you better be prepared to separate wheat from chaff if you wanna save gold and space. (Some people get attached to their pets...8D;; I know it's hard for me to release some stuff, project or not aha)
Also, as unpopular as it is, you can go without feeding your pets and save money until you need to breed them or use them for battle. Some people let that happen to their stables to save money.

Not related to the topic exactly, but what happens if you don't feed your pets?

They'll become malnourished.
They simply cannot breed, cannot go on missions, and have lowered stats in battle. That's all (no running away or dying or anything). So all you need to do to cure it is feed the pet. c:
