I'm not sure how to tell if the genes are visible or carried, before they become adolescents.
So can someone help me?

@Jayfeather451
If they're visible, they'll show up on the pet and their info page. You can see genes when they're hatchlings, and mutations when they're adolescents.
If they're carried, you'll have no way to see them except with a testing kit. Once you have it tested, the gene or mutation will show up as italicized words on the pet page.

If the gene is shown it will be in normal letters. If the gene is carried it will be italicized. That is how you will know if the gene is shown or carried...that's all there is to it. If there is no gene in that slot there will be the word none in the gene slot.
