What exactly do they do/what purpose are they for? I'm still fuzzy on that... xD

Genetic tests will reveal your pet's genes and mutations - if it carries some.
For reference: He may seem like he has no traits, but a test will show he is carring Mane Highlights, Striped Scales, Unicorn Horn and Pegasus Wings.
Tests are good for breeding the pet later-
Try to read this Breeding guide for better understanding breeding - It realy helped me.
*It isn't wise to buy the testing kit in the trade - but if you go to the breeding forum youll find people will test your pets for you (for 300g or less)- you can also buy one that won't disappear after (the normal ones are good for one use only) from the diamond shop-.
