do you guys think that your pets can actually talk?
I'm not demanding any arguments; a simple "yes" or "no" will do.

myself, I don't believe my cats (and other pets) can speak.
I do, however, think that they understand human language completely;
my thought is it's their face/mouth anatomy that doesn't allow them to pronounce words.

I don't think they speak human, but I do have conversations with mine all the time. I think they use a kind of telepathy.

I think that our pets are a lot like real animals: largely don't speak our language, but have their own languages that they understand among their own kind, but have a general understanding of our words, actions, and tones, just like we have a general understanding of their sounds, actions, and tones ^.^

My answer is yes and no. The only Sylesti of mine that I feel actually talks would be Aeralya (of Royal Abandon):


But that's probably because she spoke in the story I wrote to get her to be my buddy.

My other pets talk to me like my dogs do: very good at communicating without human words.

Edit: In my head, they understand language just fine, and can communicate with other Sylesties outside of their species, as well. ... Like Pokemon, I guess. And if you are friends with them long enough, you'll be able to understand them more and more.
