Would it be weird to ask someone to breed their pet with someone's elses pet for you so you can add another pretty pet to your hoard?

I find that as long as you're willing to pay both breeding fees, and maybe a price for the egg itself (depending on the person), most people seem to be fine breeding one of their pets with someone else's public breeder for you.

if you need one more opinion, I've been asked to breed my pets with other people's pets (or with my own ones) several times and it did not sound weird at all. ^^ as Mika said, as long as you pay both breeding fees, it's totally fine to ask such things.
