~~~The Megazone is Coming~~~
Hi all!
The Megazone is coming soon, and I'm going to be writing a walkthrough for it.
I thought it would be a good idea to have multiple walkthroughs from different perspectives and play-styles. If anyone is interested in writing a walkthrough, please sign up in this thread so we can plan it in advance
Note: you don't have to write a complete walkthrough. If you like, you can focus on certain aspects of the zone. I'll be doing a big general walkthrough, but someone else might like to focus in detail on breeding, or boss strategy
This can also be a place to discuss any megazone related thing we might encounter on our travels, such as possible secrets, boss mechanics, tips and tricks, gathering and the item crafting system, and about the new species.
Walkthrough Writers
To be a walkthrough writer you will need to be
committed to the task: It can get a little tedious with the screenshotting and recording of things.
Be a leader: Be okay with recording mistakes or blunders that you make. Be confident with your own strategies, embrace your own gaming goals. Remember, as a forerunner you'll be leading others!
Technical Skills: Have basic abilities in screen-shotting, and cropping, navigating the Sylestia forum coding systems (altering text size, colour, bold, italics), Ability to type sentences clearly.
Have Fun: This is probably the most important requirement. Writing a walkthrough takes quite a bit of time and you should find it enjoyable.
Here is a walkthrough I wrote ages ago for reference
https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=44033
You don't have to follow it if you want to write up your walkthrough a bit differently, but it might help as a rough guide.
What is going to happen?
I'm not fully sure yet, but i have two ideas at the moment:
When the megazone releases, a thread will be made in the player guides section. All the people that signed up to write their walk-through will get their own post to write their walkthrough in. The front page of this thread will have hyperlinks to everyone's walkthrough post.
OR
everyone can just make their own separate walkthrough threads, and they will all be joined by a master thread.
Interest List
SpaceElf1(Boss image codes and named bad guy)
18eities + UpsideDownSarah (Breeding and item upgrading, analysis of skills)
Rixva (Battle Guide and Abilities)
GoldGryphon (max stat themed breeding, battling, easter eggs, secrets, features)
Pinging people that write stuff in the player guides section - you might like the idea of this
(apologies if you didn't want a ping)
Well, I definitely want to get the image codes for the bosses and for any named bad guys who are Sylesties. I'll pitch in.
I'm down to try to write a guide/walkthrough on breeding or item upgrading or both. [I could also do an analysis of the new skills and their utility values, but that's not really something most people are probably looking for, it's pretty intuitive.]
here's some information I added to help clear things up
Note: you don't have to write a complete walkthrough. If you like, you can focus on specific aspects of the zone. (Or you can do a complete walkthrough if you like) I'll be doing a big general walkthrough, but someone else might like to focus in on the details on new breeding systems, or the finer points of boss killing strategies, etc.
I'm mainly getting this interest list together now to help plan the layout of everything, and to make sure that its clear what people are interested in doing, and to make it centralized. It will be nice to have all the information in an easily accessible place, with hyperlinks and stuff.
Hi Ama,
This is a great idea. I know I'll be adding on to my battle guide, so I'll be most invested in that aspect - how the new abilities work, ability rank, all that good stuff. I'd love to be on a ping list if there is such a thing for this project. I'm also happy to share anything I come up with - I think my guide would really benefit from multiple perspectives!
Of course I'll also be interested in the plot/progression too, so if there are any elements that you would like others to look out for, I'd be happy to do so.
Thanks!
@ 18eities: Awesome. Actually, I think a skill analysis would be really helpful! I love reading those. And some things that are obvious and intuitive to you, might not be so to others.
@ Sarah: You're helping out 18 correct? And that's great. Did you want to do your own separate writing to 18 or would you both be working on the same thing together?
@ Spelf: Fantastic! Image codes will help a lot with the visual learners. Were you planning on writing anything up, or did you just want to provide data?
@ Rixva: Yeah, this is partly why I want to get a buncha people together. The megazone will be a lot of diffferent things for different people, and it will be nice to cater to that. This is great, we'll link it in with your battle guide for sure!
I understood that 18 and I talked ever so briefly about co-writing a breeding guide, but that's as far as we got. I don't have strong technical skills, but I will be breeding the new species towards max stats and working with their traits. Not sure yet how much time I will have. I'm a very good writer/proofreader, and understand breeding mechanics.
That's alright! - also apologies. Yes i jumped the gun a bit. You don't have to do A Lot, just do what you want to do
You don't need a lot of technical skills tbh. I mainly put that there as a 'taste' for what potential writers might have to deal with. Really, the only technical thing you'll need to do is maybe like, an italicized word or a different coloured sentence, or just use the bold function. Or idk. If you're using images then know how to crop in paint and just put an image code in. All easy stuff you just sort of learn to do by simply interacting with Sylestia.
writing and proofing skills will be very helpful assets ~ I guess maybe yours might be more like a 'guide' but you'll get your own section if you ant to write about the traits, or any new methods of obtaining stats. I guess the 'walkthrough' part would be you trying out the new stat system, and figuring out what works, and what doesn't work. If you make any mistakes in the process, you might want to document those to prevent others from doing it.
err about how much time...I haven't really thought of deadlines or anything. I don't think any deadline should be imposed because everyone will work through the content at their own rate. Also I expect any new stattting features will unlock later rather than earlier. It's something I'll probably briefly touch on but you can go into greater detail if you want to.
I'm mostly inclined to be focusing on how the "boosted stat" thingies will work and any other resulting mechanical changes to breeding from megazone. I don't know how relevant this will be, or even if it'll be a thing worth worrying about. To quote the megazone post:
Beyond just being an extra challenge, the increased difficulty actually serves a purpose, as the rarer a Sylesti is, the higher its Base Stats will be when caught!
(I am still tweaking the numbers and deciding on how to fully implement this as I do not want to diminish the value of breeding projects, however, in some fashion, this will be true. Ideally, I'd love to create a system where the Base Stats of wild pets can also somehow be added to Stat increases from breeding.)
Beyond that, I do have some guidewriting skill, but I might just wind up being a millstone as an objective noob, even if I'll be a noob who's been playing for a month. I've been reading the guides, but that's about it.
If you're not actually interested, or don't think I can contribute, that's definitely cool.
