I couldn't find a thread about this, so I'll just ask. Can visible genes be carried over to the offspring, or is it only carried genes that affect offspring?

This is very basic but visible genes are alwais carried over to the to the offspring. If there is a ressessive trait you have a chance that the offspring get said hiden gene instead. However for a gene to have a chance be visible both parents nead to have a trait in the selected slot for it to show up. ^-^

Oh ok! What do you mean by selected slot? I have 2 vulnyxs both with visible genes, but when I test them in the breeding grounds, genes don't show up on their offspring. Is that because they're hidden? Thanks so much in advance. :>

You nead a genetic test kit to see the hiden traits and they will appear only once you have the pet in your hatchery. As for the slot thing let's take this exemple :

I have 2 ny'verns of different gender, both are tested and don't have ressessive traits.

Ny'vern 1 genetic show :

Gene One: (NN) None
Gene Two: (BB) Magma Runes
Gene Three: (NN) None
Mutation One: (FF) Frozen Spikes
Mutation Two: (NN) None
Mutation Three: (NN) None

And Ny'vern 2 genetic show :

Gene One: (NN) None
Gene Two: (BB) Magma Runes
Gene Three: (NN) None
Mutation One: (HH) Starlight Armor
Mutation Two: (NN) None
Mutation Three: (NA) Essence of Storms

Both have the slots gene two and mutation one filled with a visible. You also notice that mutation one is a different traits, because alphabeticly F come before H the gene frozen spikes will be dominant over Starlight armore and will show as visible, the second trait having a chance of becoming ressessive. Finaly Ny'vern 2 have a carry Essence of Storm that have a chance to be carried over. In theory, their offspring have a good chance to have this as a genetic :

Gene One: (NN) None
Gene Two: (BB) Magma Runes
Gene Three: (NN) None
Mutation One: (FH) Frozen spikes
Mutation Two: (NN) None
Mutation Three: (NA) Essence of Storms

"selected slot' means 'a specific trait slot'

If, for instance, you were trying to breed Sipho and your female vulnyx, they couldn't have an offspring with a visible trait, as neither of them have traits in matching slots. Sipho has traits in G3 and M3, while the female has traits in G2 and M1.

Sylestian genetics work with a punnett square/mendelean system, but I'm just going to link you to this post which I hope? should answer the question.
