I absolutely can't defeat this one boss(subject), and I was wondering what I am doing wrong. I must have fought him and his knights, and lost, at least 5 times!

Just gonna make some quick notes because I was about to leave for a while:
You have Shadow/fire/water? Bit of an unusual setup, but I suppose water is a viable support element even if most people go with light.

> Your fire pet has two Str. based equips but should have all-Evoker for the Int/Agi
> Fire pet profs would be best as 3Int or 2Int/1Dex, though I suppose 1HP/2Int might work?

> Water pet needs a Str. based relic (Assassin, Myrmidon, Ravager) or at elast a Disciple asap- Id say swap fire pet's relic to him, his to Shadow pet, and shadow pet's to fire pet for the moment (Evoker to Fire, Illusionist to Shadow, Disciple to Water)
> Water pets actually have more focus in Str- since this one isn't a Tank, I'd say maybe just put all three prof points to Str, since ice barrier can't get like,,, a 'critical defend', maybe 2str/1agi
> probably needs Assassin equips, because as a water support you obviously want to get the support moves off before the opponent moves

> Your equipment is not great overall- you'll want to try for all at least epic rarity, and all at least lv50.
Not even mentioning the presence of lv25 and uncommon and rare equips:
> your water pet is fully equipped with Int. gear, which is doing him no favors, especially since one is an arcanist and thus doesn't even boost a stat he could use like dex or agi.
> fire pet has two str. equips, but needs Int. gear- as said, all-evoker is best for fire
> the shadow has a myrmidon, which is effectively the opposite of what a shadow tank would want, Str/Dex instead of Int/Agi
