So I am pretty new and I kind of sped-read the tutorial.. And I kind of skipped what it said about the colors in the wardrobe section. I don't mean picking things like hair color and such, I mean the colors surrounding each item in the section where you choose your outfit. What does each color mean? Thanks ahead of time!

They indicate the rarity of the item.
Red border: mythical item, extremely rare. Currently there are only five helds. Four were introduced in an eggling auction, and one was a reward during this past spring fest. Now you can only get them by buying from other players or winning a forum game where "Forum Game Item of choice" is a prize.
Orange/goldish border: legendary item, pretty rare but more common than the mythical items. Many legendary items are "recolors", meaning you can pick your own colors. (Pre-colored versions of these items are usually purple.) Most of the legendary items on the first pages of the wardrobe come from The Lost Grove, a high-level zone that you won't reach for a while.
Purple border: epic item, more common than legendary items. Some recolors are epic, and pre-colored versions of them are usually blue.
Blue border: rare item, a very common type of avatar item. I don't think there are any rare recolors.
Green border: uncommon item. There are only a few of these, generally exploration items, and they're not worth much.
If you want to know generally how to get an item, the little icons in the upper left of each square in the wardrobe are helpful.
-Exploration Item: found while wandering around the world of Sylestia. They might be random drops from enemies, quest rewards, crafted in The Lost Grove...
-Merchant Item: can be bought in one of the towns, or sometimes from NPC merchants in the high-level or fest zones.
-Forum Game Item: rewards for participating in/winning an official forum game.
-Holiday Event Item: can be found during a festival. They aren't labelled in more detail, but they can only be obtained during their respective type of fest. Sometimes the fest is obvious (outfits that look bundled up or Christmas-y are probably from winter fest). If you're not sure, you can ask someone.
-Avatar Shop Item: some can be bought with diamonds from the Avatar Shop. Others were released for specific events (e.g. the Lupora Tamer's Regalia was released with the lup revamp) and are not available in the shop anymore.
-Monthly Avatar Item: These were released a long time ago (before I joined the site). The only way to obtain them now is to buy from other players or hope they're available during the Black Friday sales. They're some of the rarest items in the game.

Som pretty much covered it but I just wanted to add a bit of information.
There ARE just a few blue recolors. They're all older items and are pretty hard to find.
I also wanted to emphasize that color doesn't necessarily dictate the cost of an item. There are blue items that are rarer than orange items and vice versa. It mostly has to do with the age of an item, how they were released, and how in demand they are by players. If you're not sure how to price an item, feel free to ask in the forums or chats. ^_^
