I haven't been doing much breeding, and this is mostly for curiosity's sake, but how far-apart-but-still-related do the pets have to be, family wise, for them to be able to breed? If there's a post somewhere that has stated this already, sorry.

Would that be it? If I try to breed a grandparent/grandchild, would it work?

yes, it will, as long as they don't have a direct familly tie ( parents x offspring, sibling x siblings ...) pets can breed within the same familly.

The brother/sister breeding restriction includes half-siblings (i.e. Sylesti who share one parent but not the other), too.
