Why do people buy pets and release them? I know I am selling cheap as my hatchies are so so atm so is there some kind of reward for this? Or are they just changing their minds?

Once you get to The Lost Grove, releasing pets over 42 days gives you a higher chance of finding nests, including themed nests.
There are also people who buy and release pets to help the Sylestia economy. As prices go cheaper, it's harder for breeders and people with projects to turn a profit. Releasing pets reduces the number of pets in the system and can help raise prices for sellers.
If you'd prefer not to have your pets released, you can make a thread in the Pet Auction forum advertising sales and reserve pets by ID to people who want to buy.

Oh I don't mind them being released, once you buy them they are yours to do as you please. I just had someone buy three and do that and I didn't know why. Thank you for responding and letting me know, I appreciate it!

In addition, here are so many pets that aren't even worth anything and that's another reason. If you dont want released but want public sales, put them up for 10)g or more (I recommend more, especially themes and fabled pets).
(Also thanks for asking why instead of,idk, making a rant thread about it. That's happened before and it does get annoying...)

The lost grove themmed eggs are usualy a preaty good raison to releass masive amount of pets at the time, like Somneli said. Knowing how mutch value some of those themme can have i usualy recomend new players to releass their unwanted/for sale pets once they reach 42 days of age since what they could get later from all the releassed pets is so mutch more valuable then what any of those pets could ever bring you on their own. I mean, even if you dont like whatever pet you are getting out of this some of those themme can go up to 2M for a non-fabled tagged, it's worth the trouble from my point of vew anyway. ^-^
