I put a lesser genetic mutator on two of my captured zolnixis but nothing has seemed to happen? Does it take a while to take effect or is it broken or what? If something doesnt happen that would be a sad waste of 3000 hard earned scales.

It probably gave your pets carried traits. You would have to have someone genetically test the pets to see carried traits.

Can anyone genetically test them?

You can swing buy the services forum and there are plenty of older players who will genetically test pets for free. Just ping them and fill out their form if they have one.
You have to sell your pet to them,
Go to pets page,
Click manage pet button
Enter their player ID in the space provided (Sell to User ID) and set the price to 1

The player will buy the pet, genetically test it for you and set it back up for sale. You purchase the pet back for 1 gold (or set amount) and you will be able to see all the pets genetics.

Gene's in green: NA (for example) carried gene, you can not see it. Can only be known about if the pet is genetically tested.

Gene's in blue: AA (for example) the viable gene, you can see the gene. (All un tested pets show viable traits as this)

Gene's in purple: AB (for example) the trait A is visible but there is another recessive trait B being carried underneath. The recessive traits are called hidden genes. The hidden genes can only be known about if the pet is tested.

Even if you dont test pets they can still pass down carried and hidden traits. If you know Mandels genetics (Punnett Squares) then you know how traits are passed down in this game. If you dont then you can Google it and learn how to do it in about five minutes.
