This story is about a winged fiery fox, this is a mythical creature that is not in any mythology or legend. This animal has the wings of a barn owl for silent flight, a small fox body to fit into small spaces, but most of all, this story is centered around one of those few creatures that would happen to be part human. She is a hybrid, and this hybrid's name is Maxine Everest... and this is her story.


WARNING: This story may contain violence such as fighting and abuse, there may also be language.


A little note, I don't own any art, also I don't know if anyone has officially created a Phoenox, but now it has a story made by me a fox lover!



This is my first ever book that I have ever written, this was originally on Wattpad, but I wasn't getting a lot of feedback from there, so now it's here!

Likes: Sweets, spicy stuff, sleeping in fire and lava and on hot rocks, sleeping in trees, climbing, flying, running, and swimming (yes she can swim, she just can't use her fire in water)

Dislikes: Sourness, being forced to scavenge for old rotting meat, being woken up from her sleep, and being and seeing bullying.

Other: Maxine can speak English but when she is feeling an extreme emotion she will switch to Spanish, she will often curse in Spanish, whenever she is eating some candy, NEVER, and I mean NEVER take her candy away, or you will walk away with most likely a missing hand or even your face, also don't wake her up from her sleep or you will be cooked alive.

Backstory: You will find out, her backstory will come in bits and pieces throughout the story.

The Phoenox

One morning a hunter was stalking through the forest, he was dressed as the surrounding foliage. None of the animals could see him since he blended into his surroundings easily, but one fox-like creature could sense him, she could sense his heat that was emanating from his body. The small red furred creature fluttered up to a branch, she hid in the leaves as the man glanced up at where she had just been. The man shook it off as a bird, he continued on as the creature followed silently.

The creature made ghostly noises making the man more scared by the minute. The creature finally made her grand appearance, she dropped in front of the man in her hybrid form. She growled as she stood up, her fangs bared, claws out, tail swishing behind her angrily, her wings snapped out in a threatening way.

The man held his gun shakily trying to put on a brave face. The creature that stood before him had her ears pinned to her head in anger that he even dared set a foot in her forest. The forest that she has been living in for the past ten years.

"W-what are you?" The man shakily asked, the creature glared daggers at the man as she replied with an angry snarl,

"I am a Phoenox, or better known as the monster that lives in this forest. Now leave before I decide to feed you to my many friends."

As she said this a multitude of carnivorous animals stalked forward with deep angry snarls and growls coming from their throats.

The man let out a shriek of terror as he ran like the devil himself was hot on his heels, shouting "Demon!" and "Monster!" as the animals chased him out of the forest and returned to the creature.

The Phoenox gave a kind smile as her body relaxed.

"Thank you for your help." She said as her wings spread wide to take off into the air.

"Of course, Protector, you have always helped us and we are always willing to repay the debt." A gray wolf by the name of Fang said respectfully with a bow.

The girl gave a smile, "Please, call me Maxine. There is no need for formalities, Fang." She said.

Fang nodded, the girl now known as Maxine nodded in return and took off into the sky as she shifted to her Phoenox form.



After checking the forest of any other idiotic hunters, she plopped down onto a hammock made of thick green vines. Maxine let out a sigh as she spotted a mother wolf and her four pups stampede over. Maxine smiled, she got out of the hammock and sat down on the forest floor criss cross style, her wings were folded neatly on her back, her tail swishing behind her in happiness, and her ears perked up showing her joy at seeing the wolves.

"Maxy! Maxy, Mama and Papa are gonna move the pack to a cave a little bit away from here so we can see you a lot more!" A small black wolf pup shouted happily.

Maxine smiled brightly, "Really!? Does that mean I get to watch you little balls of fluff while the pack hunts?" she asked with a small smirk.

"Hey! We aren't small! We're big wolves with rough fur, not fluffy fur!" the youngest pup shouted in dignity.

Maxine pretended to pout and be sad, "But that means I can't use you guys as pillows anymore!"

"Don't worry, I'll keep my fur soft and fluffy for you Maxy!" The oldest pup said as he hopped into her lap.

Maxine smiled, "Awww, thanks Moss!"

Maxine played with the pups and chatted with the Mother known as Raksha, she was enjoying herself but the happiness surrounding the area shattered when the sound of rapid firearms rang through the air causing a multitude of birds to squawk loudly and flutter off into many directions.

The Forest Intruders

Maxine shot up as Moss and the rest of the pups darted over to their mother. Raksha got into a position in a way that she can attack and protect.

"Maxine! There are men dressed in black clothes with guns entering the forest!" cried a brown bear.

Maxine narrowed her pupils into cat-like slits, the bear stopped in front of her panting heavily. Maxine nodded and swiftly climbed onto his back.

"Quick Daniel! We need to cut them off before they get to the more populated areas of the forest!" Maxine shouted as the bear started lumbering toward the intruders.

After about fifteen minutes Daniel skidded to a stop as many men dressed in black armor with guns appeared before the two creatures.

The men had heard the branches snapping and the pounding footsteps. The intruders focused their attention on the two, but they were not expecting a creature like Maxine riding on the back of a Brown Bear like Daniel.

"Leave this forest if you wish to survive my flames!" Maxine boomed as she got down from Daniel, once she was off the bear, he moved away a few feet. Maxine seemed to burst into flames as she let out a cry that sounded like a mix between a roar and barn owl screech.

The men were very much startled by this sudden action, but nonetheless, they started firing their weapons, their ammunition was aimed at her limbs rather than her heart, lungs, and head.

Maxine's fire melted the bullets before they could even touch her skin, but this made Maxine very angry as the fire surrounding her grew bigger and hotter.

The men backed away slightly as the heat grew unbearably hot, the surrounding trees and shrubbery started to catch on fire. Maxine was unintentionally starting a forest fire.

"Maxine! Stop! The forest will burn down if you continue!" Daniel cried out in a panic.

Maxine glanced around as her fire subsided, she gasped as the plants around her were fully on fire. Tears gathered in her eyes, she had started a fire that would destroy her home.

The men saw that she was no longer showered in flames, the men switched out their bullet-filled guns with tranq guns. They quickly shot the darts into the girl's neck as well as into the bear.

Maxine fell to the ground losing consciousness, the last thing she saw before passing out was the men rushing toward her with restraints, she could hear gunshots and the fire crackling. She could hear bullets colliding into flesh and wood. Maxine could here the animals she called friends and family yelping and crying out in pain as they died or get seriously injured.



Maxine woke up in a room strapped down to a silver slab, her wings were painfully pressed into her back. There were small suction cups connected to wires, there was a steady beeping coming from nearby machines. There were suction cups connected to her head, arms, stomach areas, and legs.

There were multiple people dressed in lab coats, in front of a pair of silver doors there was a pair of men dressed in black with large threatening guns.

"Ah, you're awake now." A man in a lab coat said he had ice blue eyes that held little, to no warmth.

Maxine groggily looked around, she tried to move her limbs to find they were held down by leather straps.

"I wouldn't try to escape. This place is heavily guarded and this building is like a giant maze." The man said, he wore glasses that glared in the light blocking his eyes from view.

Maxine glared at the man groggily, flames started to rise to her hands. Behind her were two orderlies with fire extinguishers, they quickly extinguished her flames.

The man smirked, "I doubt you will be able to escape this place unless someone actually helped you in this hellhole."

Maxine bared her fangs and let out a barn owl hiss, flames licked out of her mouth, the man frowned before he was handed a small bowl of water, he splashed the water onto her face causing the flames to hiss, pop, and disappear in a puff of smoke.

Maxine coughed out small clouds of smoke, she hissed again as her claws came out and dug into the metal slab she was laid upon, her ears were pinned against her skull showing her absolute anger.

The man chuckled at her anger, not one bit phased. Maxine gave a death glare that could scare even the Devil if he so much as felt her dangerous presence. The man only blinked, but then he smirked.

"Now, what are you?" The man asked as he leaned in closer, the other men and women in lab coats took a couple of steps closer, some of them held clipboards while others held various objects, such as measuring tape and rulers.





Now, if you have read the Pegasus series, then you probably have figured that I am using the CRU, which yes I basically am. But, but, I am doing some changes, so it's basically my own personalized version of the CRU, but instead of saying it like crew, you actually say the letters.

The CRU

Maxine squirmed under their intense gaze and touch. The men and women were measuring her ears, tail, and kept on shining lights into her eyes.

One of the men tried to measure her fangs, but Maxine kept on snapping and growling at them. Maxine managed to latch her teeth onto the man's forefinger. The man let out a cry of pain as Maxine added more and more pressure until she heard a sickening crack emanate from his finger.

As soon as Maxine released the man's finger she felt a sharp stinging in her neck. Maxine let out a hiss of pain as her vision clouded with black dots.



Maxine woke up in a tank full of water, she was only in a black sports bra and black running shorts. There were multiple little suction cups littering her arms, legs, torso, and head. Maxine's eyes widened, there was a breathing mask on, she immediately started to struggle to move, but found that she was once again strapped down.

"Well, well, well, so the beast awakens." A man dressed in a black suit said. The man smirked as he walked toward the tank, he brought his hand up and tapped on the glass. Maxine's ears pinned back at the seemingly loud overbearing sound.

Maxine gave a harsh glare as her breathing quickened, she loved to swim, but she didn't like staying underwater for more than five minutes.

"Sir, her heartbeat is quickening as is her breathing. She may be having a panic attack." A woman behind a computer and various monitors said.

The man cocked an eyebrow as his smirk grew, "Well then, if you make sure to be a good girl you can come out of that tank and get your own personal habitat."

Maxine was desperate to get out of the tank so she nodded her head as fast as she could. The man smirked and gave two short waves with his fore and middle fingers up.

The mask Maxine was wearing started to fill with an odd smell, Maxine had never experienced knockout gas before. She sniffed the new smell as she started to pass out, she began to freak out again knowing it was bad to black out underwater, even if there was a breathing mask.

Maxine's quickened, panicked breathing and heartbeat caused the monitors to beep rapidly.

"Sir! If she doesn't calm down soon and out of the water, she could choke on her own breath!" The woman from before shouted.

"******! Calm her down and out of the water! We need to keep her alive!" The man shouted.

Maxine was hauled out of the water, the restraints were removed as a man tore the mask off.

"Easy girl, easy." A man in a lab coat said soothingly. Maxine took deep breaths as she calmed down, but she soon passed out from the sudden adrenaline rush fading and leaving her completely drained.



Maxine woke up in what looked like a cave, she looked around groggily as she managed to stand up. She let out a groan as she walked out of the cave, her eyes widened at seeing a forest clearing, a pond, and even a small waterfall. Maxine glanced up, there was what seemed to be the sky, she frowned, she opened her wings and flew up, she soon realized it was a giant screen with UV lights to imitate sunlight. She was in a habitat, she flew back down to the ground.

Maxine wandered the area before coming across a large mirror, she had never seen one before. Maxine cocked her head to the side as she shifted to her Phoenox form, she was startled that the figure in front of her changed to match her looks. She tapped the reflective glass with the tip of her nose, she gave an adorable kitten sneeze. She shook her head and body out, the Phoenox trotted over to a pile of wood. Maxine blew fire onto the wood, she then climbed into the fire and curled up, she started to doze off as the flames enveloped her body.



Men and women dressed in lab coats and some in suits watched the creature nap in the fire in amazement.

"Nick, are you seeing this? It is literally sleeping in a fire! It's like a ... a modified version of a Phoenix!" A scientist exclaimed. The man that went by Nick, nodded seeming to be in a trance while watching the creature before them sleeping among the flames.

"Do you think her species already have a name or do we need to make one up?" Nick asked.

"Wait! In this old book of Greek Mythology, it talks about a winged fox called a 'Phoenox', apparently, it doesn't need to burn itself like a Phoenix, it needs to soak in a pool of lava located in the volcano of Honolulu, 'Diamond Head'. After soaking in the lava for at least a day or so, it comes out younger, as a young Phoenox kit." A woman in a lab coat explained as she read from an old Greek Mythology Book.

Nick nodded, "We need to keep her fed and healthy, provide her with wild animals if we need to do an examination, provide her with a chunk of meat with a sleeping pill hidden in it." Nick ordered.

The men and women nodded in understanding as Nick left the room and down the long winding halls.

The Hunt And The Wolves

The men kept watching over the Phoenox.

"Send in the rabbit." A scientist said into a walkie-talkie. A small door in the wall lifted, a large plump rabbit dashed out and past the slumbering Phoenox.

Maxine's eyes snapped open at the sudden sound of running feet, Maxine leaped up out of the fire and immediately gave chase. She was hungry and no one was going to stop her.

The scientists watched in amazement as they watched the Phoenox chase after her meal. Maxine didn't just fly or just run, she did both. Maxine had always loved the thrill of chasing after her next meal.

After about 15 minutes of chasing the rabbit, she pounced and wrapped her teeth around the rabbit's neck, the rabbit died almost instantly as soon as the Phoenox has bitten down. Maxine carried the rabbit back over to her fire, she crawled in and let the rabbit cook a bit before starting to chow down.

The scientists were amazed by how the creature hadn't even broken a sweat.

After eating, Maxine saw a door open, the door was large enough for an average sized wolf to come through easily. A pack of four male wolves dashed out, three wolf pups followed a female wolf.

The scientists were curious as to how Maxine would react to the wolves. Maxine's head perked at seeing the wolves. The pack surveyed the area making sure it was safe for the pups, the mother wolf took the pups to the cave where Maxine had woken up in.

Maxine sat up as the males wandered over, she gave a kind smile and rolled onto her back, showing that she was not a threat and just wanted to be friends.

The pack leader came forward cautiously, "What are you? You smell like a fox and owl." the wolf growled. Maxine came out of the fire slowly, "I am what is known as a Phoenox, I used to be the protector of a forest, but... I was taken from my home." Maxine explained, the last bit she looked down sadly, a tear slipped down her furry face.

The pack leader came forward and licked the tear away, "Don't cry, we will help get you home, the men who took us from our home will pay." the wolf growled the last part angrily. Maxine nodded and nuzzled him, the wolf gave off a fatherly aura as he warmly nuzzled back.

The rest of the pack joined and nuzzled the Phoenox, she was now part of the pack. Maxine gave a teary-eyed smile as the pack welcomed her.

The scientists watched this in amazement, they thought that the Phoenox would fight the wolves for her new territory and food supply. The scientists stopped their excited chattering when the door opened, revealing Nick. The man walked in, his eyes slightly widened at seeing the wolves nuzzling the Phoenox.

"Please don't be mad, we just wanted to see how well the Phoenox would do with the wolves." A scientist said nervously wringing his hands.

Nick nodded, "Next time run it by me first." The scientists nodded frantically, they knew that getting on this man's bad side never ended well, normally with someone leaving in a body bag.

"Where did you get the wolves?" Nick asked, "From a forest a couple of hundred miles from the forest where the soldiers found the Phoenox, sir." A woman informed him.

Nick nodded and muttered to himself, "How can a freak of nature like her easily befriend a bunch of wolves and not be comfortable around some humans." he muttered the last bit rather bitterly.



Maxine and the wolves got used to each other easily when more rabbits were released, the pack and the Phoenox hunted the rabbits easily, with each other's help and such.

Maxine watched and played with the pups when the mother wolf, Luna, needed a well-deserved nap.

The pups absolutely loved Maxine, they loved that she could cook the meat with her fiery breath, they loved that she could fly and shake leaves down onto them.

But, Maxine hadn't shown the wolves that she had two other forms. Maxine wanted to show them but was unsure as to how to reveal her secret. Maxine let out a sigh of frustration, she was currently on a low-hanging branch of a tree by the pond, her tail was swishing back and forth just an inch above the ground.

Maxine then decided, she was going to show the wolves her forms, she was going to first introduce her hybrid form, then her human form. She knew that the wolves would freak out at first, she knew since when she revealed her forms to the pack that she protected, she had to gain their trust back.

Maxine hopped off the branch and trotted over to the cave, she stood 3 yards from the pack who were just lazing around in the beams of the artificial sunlight.

The pack leader, Fang, lifted his head, "Hello." he said with a kind, fatherly smile, the rest of the pack focused their gaze on her, smiling and laid back.

"I have something to show you..." Maxine said nervously, trailing off at the end. Maxine shifted to her hybrid form and looked down at the ground nervously. She could hear the wolves shift to a standing position quickly.

She slowly looked up at the wolves to see them...

The Reaction

A/N: Sup, so I may have not really waited for opinions but I would love to get more comments on how I do. Now, if you would like to get more info on the characters then I would be glad to do so.

Previously...

Maxine looked up to see the wolves...



The wolves were snarling while the pups were trying to get past the wall of protective wolves. The pups weren't scared of her, yes they were scared of humans, but they knew that Maxine wasn't a full human. But the adults thought that she was more or less working with the men that brought them in.

Maxine's ears drooped, her softly swaying tail stilling, a tear ran down her cheek as her wings wrapped around herself in comfort.

"Th-those men... they took me from my home...they...killed..." she couldn't say anymore as her tears turned into thin rivers. Maxine sobbed as she dug her claws into her arms as she clutched them tightly. Fang didn't trust her but knew that she was in pain from being taken from her home and family.

The wolves stopped their snarling and crept toward the hybrid, the pups reached her first, they nuzzled her trying to comfort their crying friend.

"Please don't cry... you have us... and... we'll get out of here." One of the pups, Ash, said as he nuzzled against her wings.

Maxine cried as she embraced the pack in a hug.

Maxine had lost some of the wolves trust, but with her situation, some of their trust in her was regained. The rest of that trust would be regained as time went on.



The scientists watched the hybrid and wolves, they were confused and surprised considering the wolves downright hated the men. Nick entered with a smirk, he had gotten word that the Phoenox had shown her hybrid form. He thought the wolves would attack her and she would trust the men more, but when he saw the wolves and hybrid embracing... he looked ready to shoot somebody's brains out.

"Um... sir?" One of the men asked nervously, everyone were trying to subtly move away from the enraged agent.

Nick had wanted the hybrid to gan trust in him and his colleagues so the experiments and checkups went more smoothly and such.

"That thing needs to trust us as to make things easier, if the wolves turn her against us... get rid of them."

The scientists were slightly surprised, they had never heard such malice in the man's voice before, not even when torturing 'patients' as they called them, for information on various things.

"Y-yes sir." A scientist says, the others mumble out agreements and watch as Nick leaves with a loud slam of the door. Not five minutes had passed when the sudden sound of screams of pain filled the halls.

"Let's hope the creature starts trusting us soon... for our sake." An older scientist said, his colleagues nod and murmur in agreement.



Nick was walking down a long corridor, occasionally passing a fellow Agent or scientist. The agent was thinking about what to do about the infernal creature trusting him and the others.

"That THING is getting on my nerves, those damn wolves trust her. SHE'S PART HUMAN FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!"

The few people passing the ticked off man saw that he was ready to strangle someone... very, very, soon.

"Okay," he took a deep, semi-calming, breath, "maybe if we introduce her to someone who even the wolves trust, then she'll start trusting us."

The man smirked, he had a plan, it would either crash and burn, or it would go sky high.

Nick approached a room, he entered the code into the keypad, the lock clicked. The agent entered the room, the door closing and locking behind him.

Very soon screams of agony and terror rang throughout the halls.





A/N: All right people, that's another chappy done, but, there is a hidden reference to a movie. If you find it, tell me and you get to help make the character that the wolves trust, if 5 readers find the reference before the end of the week, those 5 will get to help me create the new character, anyone else can say what they would prefer, but just so y'all know, I ain't actually gonna type in a different lingo, if it is in a different language, it will be in italics and bold.
