I have heard of projects and what-not since I started but I have zero idea of what it means. Can I do it? Is it for specific pets? Is it traits? How do you start a project? Please help .-.

projects (breeding projects, more accurately, but it's faster to cut out the first bit) are when you decide a goal and breed pets to reach it.
Projects might be a personal design, or 6-vis, or Stat-based project, or themed, or any combo of those
Projects are time consuming (they can take literal years to complete) and can be very expensive, depending on what the final goal is.
Stat-based projects are typically Max-stat projects, aiming to breed pets to the ultimate goal of having 2000HP, 200mana (previously 100+), and 100 str/int/dex/agi
(also, super stat projects, which aim for the same thing but with the painful process of getting bonus stats from high-rarity pets from the Lost Grove bred into the lines.)
6-vis is what it sounds like, breeding pets to the final goal of having six visible traits.
Theme projects are often combined with the other kinds- typically taking pets of a theme and breeding specific ones to eventually achieve a particular combo of traits.
Personal project designs are a case of a person designing something in the generator and then breeding and dyeing to achieve that.
This nyte is from an in-progress 6-vis max-stat project without a clearly defined set of traits bred for (she herself has 6 visible traits, and all stats maxed except for mana)
This nyte is a completed 100-mana (since it was done before there was a way to increase mana) personal design, made using a 3-vis theme project (the parents are same theme as the other nyte, but dyed to achieve this look so all their offspring would share their colours) The parents were bred to have a specific selection of genes
There is a guide to trait breeding here and a guide to stat breeding here
You can often see what kinds of projects other people are doing in the Pet Sharing and Design Discussion forum and Breeding Discussion forum

Technically it could be? Don't go overboard, especially when you're new to projects- as I said, they can take a lot of time, and can cost a lot (and 22 6-vis projects which would all need generator essences, or dyes, or both, would be,,, hhhhh, a Lot.)(for perspective, it took us over a year to reach 6v starting with pets that were 2-3v, and though my own breeding strategies aren't necessarily the most optimal ones because of how I like to do things, you will find that a year or possibly more is considered the typical timeline for such projects)
You'd want to decide what your end goal for a project was before hand- and consider
> if you'd be making it specifically for yourself, or if you'd want to sell the end product (in such a case, you'd want to do an interest check in the Pet Sharing and Design Discussion forum to make sure there were people interested)
> the amount of space you have available in your stables
> your funds and available project related items (stat philters, dyes, possibly magical pies and gender swappers)
for instance, if I wanted to do a Frosty Soil Bulbori project with
this appearance as the final goal
I'd need to secure access to multiple Frosty Soil bulbori, with a trait spead that covered all six of the traits (Himalayan, Iridescent gems, Advanced Runes, Tail Wisp, Jeweled Feathers, Enchanting flowers)
This might mean buying them, or bartering with the owners to gain breeding access, or mutating traits onto them.
then the months of breeding to get multiple traits on offspring, and to weed out hiddens so they don't show up.
If it were a stat project, again, months, generations, of breeding, and the cost of philters and/or nurture boosts
if it were a personal design instead, I'd need to do all the traits, and then have enough dyes for the parents of the final product generation- and then there's the choice between the notoriously inaccurate Lesser Pet Dyes from the scale shop, or the much more accurate but also more expensive greater dyes from the diamond shop- or have the funds for essences to start the project with to have the colours from the beginning (and even then might need dyes anyway.)
(although, of course, for some species you can get regennable pets and use those, but it isn't really a 'project' if you're just regenning two 12tp/all color regen pets and breeding from them, it's more just a personal design made easy)
