Why do some people buy a pet to immediately release it? Ive seen it happen numerous times, but Ive never understood. Is it to limit the gene pool or something?

Breeding is fairly quick on this site. Over time, people have bred a lot of pets at random, and gradually prices are decreasing. It may be nice for buyers, but it makes it harder for people to turn a profit from projects they've put a lot of work into. People buy and release in hopes that people will raise their prices and/or think twice about breeding in excess.
Additionally, releasing pets over 42 days old gives a slight increase to your chances of finding a nest in the Lost Grove.
