I have been going at it for eight hours now, unable to get any process. Are the mirrors part of something or is it just long?

I linked you two different guides. One is a full sylestia walkthrough with a link to a guide, ( I directly linked the specific post on aryth's spire) and the other Is the admin-made guide. The colors refer to the mirrors in aryths spire.

Basically, in Aryth's Spire there are nine differently coloured rooms, each with two Mirrors - a Left option and a Right option. Each of which lead to a specific different colour outcome (Go with Mormory's map (linked in Krinadon's post) if you want to cheat since, well, it's Krinadon endorsed and more cleanly done then Amarok's, which was a rougher, quicker record)
You have to read the textbox to see what colour room you end up in- it tells you in Jinxie's text box, and there is no actual visual indicator what room you are in, nor is it shown in the mirror selection text box

So with, for instance, the Bronze Mirror room, the Left option always takes you to the Jade room, and the Right option to the Garnet room. Amethyst is always Left =

You have to pick the correct mirrors to get to the boss of the area. If you get lucky (or cheat using the links provided by the others above), it can take maybe two minutes. If you don't, well, as you have discovered it can take a while
