I need help my pets keep dying... is it because I have to unlock the third party pet or is it because of my equipment?
I don't have enough gold to unlock the third party slot, is it really nessecary?

Umbra Forest has encounters designed with you having a third party pet in mind, as is Region 3 and the Lost Grove after it.
Gold is not actually difficult to get, see the Guide to making Gold and the Guide to Missions and Mission Pets
looking at your two current party pets, though, yes, your equipment needs fixing- Shadow tanks should have Illusionist (Int/Agi) (Myrmidon is the last thing a shadow tank needs, being str/dex) Evoker should be okay, but Tanks do generally want at least some Agi (since Agi calculates evasion chance and also buffs defenses)
Fire attackers want Evoker (int/dex) gear, and int/dex profs (rather than HP)
You'll want to upgrade any uncommon/rare equips to epic+ asap (uncommon is Garbage, rare is okay but very average)
Additionally, you may be a bit underlevelled for Umbra at this time, since the lowest level area there is lv25. If you go back and grind in some Viridian Meadows zones you should be able to get both exp for your pets, and gold from chests+battles (+sellable equips)
