your explanation isn't very clear, you mean the tag or somthing else ?

The tag (purple or blue name in the genetic section) is a way to identify what themme a pet is belonging as well as it's generation, generation 0 (usualy called tagged) is the original pet from that themme and have a purple tag while generation 1 and onward (usualy called pure breed) is blue.

there are various others symboles that could fit with whatever you were trying to describe:

= have been geneticly tested
= one gene/mutation was added to this pet
= at least one of it's colorations have been alterated

It depend of the age of the pet but in general it allow you to see carried (green) and ressessive (purple) traits. It also allow you to see mutations of an hatcheling before they are fully grown and to see the stats of an egg, those two features are especialy interesting when making project.
