Lg is rough when you first start out. There will be things you will have a tough time killing until you get your pets leveled up to max and get your abilities ranked up. Things get significantly easier once you get your pets abilities up to rank 3.

In short, lg is a complete and total grindfest. Keep grinding those ranks and levels.

Bellow level 70 the bosses are very hard to beat, asside from the duids that are manageables. You can trade empty bottles for elixir and draught witch is more cost efficient but at your level try to stick with the begining zone near the druids and grind on small enemies there until you get some upgrade. The exotic set of equipement is not realy worth it so try to swap for the appropriated vinethorn sets as soon as possible.

Yeah, those guys are tough. *Nods* My Party pets were at a similar level to yours when I first started exploring the Grove, and I had the same trouble with them (and the Ancient Ents) as youre having now. There are a few other things you can do in addition to just grinding to get your pets to a higher level.
. If you ever do take a stab at fighting them again, pay attention to their mana bar (the blue one). When that bar is full, thats when they use their Vanish ability (It basically renders them invisible & mostly invulnerable to your attacks.). To reduce the damage the Captains do to your pets when they use that ability, make ALL your pets block. Do that multiple times until the damage done to the pet(s) in question is in the low 100s, or even better, when your battle log says Nightfall Captains (ability) was avoided by (pet name), then use whatever attack you want to counter the Captain.

. If you have the gold to do it (and its damage stats are equal), maybe change the pet of yours thats an Earth pet to a Shadow pet. Pets attuned to that element eventually have two abilities that allow them to partially heal themselves during battle, so thats a big help. If you cant do the above, but have another pet at a similar level that already is attuned the Shadow element, switch out your Earth pet for that one (I have extras of the set of rare LG equipment (Reaver) designed for those pets if you need it.), and see if it helps.

. If you have any, try using the Lightbringer set on your Light pet, rather than the Pyromancer set. I have extras of that (Lightbringer equipment) too, if you need it.

. If youre using your Light pet as an attacker rather than a Healer, maybe change its proficiency point distribution so its that, rather than an attacker. A good piece of general advice to keep in mind is any pet Party benefits from including a Light Healer, because it can partially heal the other pets in that party as well as itself.

Okay so earthprotector49 was right in ways but also wrong. They're right because you do need to block for 3 turns after the captain has full mana. You also need VT gear which is stronger than your exotic gear. However you should keep your light with pryomancer gear because the dex allows them to heal more causing less dying. You actually don't need to switch your earth tank to a shadow because if you're healer can heal there's no need for the shadow tanks healing skill. Earth tanks actually may work better than shadow Tanks because they are stronger and more sturdy. Like the other players said you should just train your skills in the higher part and try to earn more money so you can buy Vinethorn gear.

It depends on what position your pet is playing, really. Here's the logic. Hopefully it makes sense as it's kind of late and I tend to ramble when I get tired.

I will always recommend that new players use a tank/healer/DPS setup. It's a very balanced team and will get you through all but the very very toughest of bosses.

In this setup your tank should have all their proficiency points put into agility and health. The actual distribution is a personal preference among players. Some players will even a single point into intelligence for a shadow tank since shadow pets heal themselves for a percentage of the damage they deal. Therefore the more damage they do the more they heal themselves. Agility both lowers the amount of damage a pet takes from an attack and increases their chance of evading an attack altogether.

A DPS pet should ideally be what is known as a 'glass cannon'. This means that they have almost no defense but make up for it by dealing high amounts of damage. The tank's job is to prevent this glass cannon from taking as little damage as possible. Therefore a DPS pet needs to have points in intelligence (for fire) or strength (for air) as well as points in dexterity. Dexterity increases the chance for a pet to have a critical hit and cause massive amounts of damage. Intelligence and strength both increase the amount of damage a pet does. Both of these stats increase damage and are ideal for a DPS pet. If a tank is doing its job properly it shouldn't need to avoid attacks or take a lot of damage so agility and health are pretty useless for them.

Healers, which in this setup are always light pets, are the exact same as a DPS pet. They are a glass cannon because light pets heal proportional to the amount of damage they do. Therefore they want to do as much damage as possible. So your light healer is going to want lots of intelligence and dexterity. Agility and health are useless stats for them.

The highest stats on lightbringer armor are intelligence and agility. The highest stats on pyromancer armor are intelligence and dexterity. So a light healer would ideally use pyromancer armor since the higher dexterity will allow them to do more damage and therefore heal more.

That said, some people have created setups that use light pets as tanks. In this case it probably is better to use either lightbringer (high intelligence and agility with intelligence being higher) or reaver (high intelligence and agility with agility being higher) armor instead of pyromancer. A light tank is going to want some agility to mitigate the attacks coming at them.
