'Kay, so I half-heartedly started a project a while ago and sorta... gave up. (Mostly because I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.) Any tips on doing or starting projects?

> know what your end goal is going to be
- understand the genetics, what traits are you after, if stats matter, what are your base breeding stock, do you need to track down any for a trait you need but don't have

>between traits, stats, and colours (if it isn't a themed project) you generally go for traits first, then stats, and then colours

> have the space in your stables

I'm not the most experienced to say this but there are a few key points you should keep in mind:

-make sure to plan things out, don't randomly breed and think before you do something

-if you're focussing on traits make sure you have all the traits you need before you start

-make sure to breed to get the largest amount of needed traits

- if you're doing a stat project breed traits first and then stats

-if you're doing a non-themed project breed traits first then stats and dye the project at the end of needed

-release anything you don't need to preserve stable space

I can't think of anything else right now but I'm sure other players can give you better advice.

I'm not the best but I did find out a few things the hard way:
1) Space. Have space. I had to place everything on hold for a long time to save up for a new stable
2) Traits first, stats later.
3) Have every trait you need first
4) Dye the end result last (I wasted like 8 dyes before)
5. Don't hoard.

Lots of great tips here already. My biggest tip is to read Xavion's Breeding Guide. It's where I started when working on projects and it explains pretty much everything you ever needed or wanted to know about project breeding. Plus, if the answer isn't there, Xavion is very open to questions, and answers those questions quickly and completely.

Once you understand how the genetics work on the site, my biggest piece of advice is to love that project to bits. You're going to be seeing an awful lot of that colour scheme and those traits for the next several months.

Next, have patience. Project breeding is not quick. It involves a lot of RNG luck to get the traits showing up, especially in the beginning. Most projects take several months (if it's just traits and colours), to over a year (if you're adding stats too), to complete.

Finally, don't feel bad about releasing and / or infertilizing. Intermediate offspring of projects don't tend to sell well, and selling almost completed, fertile offspring runs the risk of someone else completing your project independently and underselling you (something I wish someone had told me when I started out, because this *did* happen to me). Releasing your older breeders and failed offspring will give you space to continue your project. And if you do decide to sell nearly complete offspring, infertilizing them first will protect your project's worth when you complete it.

Oh riht I almsot forgot

Breed for more traits rather rthen visible. Then itll be easier to get visible later on. So if you get a lot fo carried traits then that's good usually

Also genetic testing kitsch an infertility kitsch are your bffs

Nearly a whole year? That's a loooong time. Do you know about how much gold it would cost to make a max stat project? An aproximate guess, maybe?
