What exactly does "Staves' reset" mean?

It clears any vine-lanterns you may have have gotten, which are marked above the slots (they light up gold once successfully landed on). Once you get three, if opens up a special bonus round. 'Staves Reset' is the jerk making you start all over again trying to get three. ;P

Ok on Jamboree with Jinxie I'm confused I got two of the silver cup things and it says you're supposed to get 40 g but I only got 3 g??? Is it not working right or something?

You must have them in consecutive slots starting with the first Column.

How do you get to the next level (tier?)? I'm stuck on 5.

@Astramoon,

To unlock the 2nd tier, you must finish all of the zones in Umbra Forest, the 2nd region of our Exploration system.
